Job Title: Adult Services Coordinator
FT/PT: Full-Time, FLSA Exempt.
Hours: Average of 37.5 hours per week with some evenings and alternate Saturdays.
Salary: D.O.Q. Benefits include medical, Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund, holiday pay/compensatory time, life and AD&D insurance, and time off benefits.
Position Description: We seek an enthusiastic, progressive librarian to lead the Adult Services Department in our busy suburban public library. The Adult Services Coordinator works under the general direction of the Library Director to plan, organize, and supervise the operation of the Adult Services Department.
Responsibilities include:
- Coordinates and manages adult service department functions, including service to young adults.
- Hires, supervises, evaluates, schedules, and ensures training of, and ongoing communication among employees.
- Plans, implements, promotes, and evaluates adult programming.
- Coordinates and participates in collection management, including selection, weeding, and maintenance. Identifies, integrates, and evaluates new and emerging formats.
- Recommends and implements approved goals and objectives, including budgetary recommendations.
- Drafts policies and procedures.
- Participates on management team. Advises director on matters related to department operations.
- Attends and participates in staff, department, and other professional meetings related to job responsibilities.
- Staffs public desk.
- Compiles and keeps statistics of department activity. Conducts other evaluative measurements of library services. Prepares monthly reports.
- Interprets library policy.
- Keeps informed of professional development and trends.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Extensive knowledge of current general public library service, policies, standards, and procedures; basic software applications and their use; reference service trends and opportunities; supervisory methods, including function and task allocation, evaluation, and maintaining morale.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; identify future needs and develop plans to meet those needs; demonstrate independent judgment.
- Experience with departmental budgeting and grant-writing.
- Ability to provide library services to a diverse clientele.
- MLS/MLIS from ALA-accredited program.
- Five years of library experience, preferably in a public library, including two years of supervisory experience.
- Effective skills in all forms of communication, written and oral, to both internal and external contacts; problem/conflict resolution; workplace organization and time management.
