Free Genealogy Workshops: Volunteers from the Zion Genealogical Society will be available to assist you in researching your family tree on Wednesdays from 7:00-9:00 p.m.

Intro to the Internet: Scott Martensen will teach you the basics of the Internet on Monday, June 4, at 10:00 a.m.  Students should have some knowledge and experience using a computer and mouse.  Call 847.872.4680, ext. 4 or register online.

Microsoft Excel Class: Want to learn about the wonderful world of spreadsheets?  On Monday, June 4, at 1:30 p.m., beginners will learn the basics of Microsoft Excel—how to set up spreadsheets, how formulas work and how Excel can be used with other programs.  Call 847-872-4680, ext. 4 or register online.

Microsoft PowerPoint Class: On Tuesday, June 5, at 1:30 p.m., you will learn how to make powerful PowerPoint presentations! This basic class for beginners will teach you how to create visual presentations.  Participants must have basic computer skills, familiarity with word processing programs and the ability to use cut-and-paste techniques.  Registration is required.  Call 847.872.4680, ext. 4 or register online.

Find a Job with Illinois WorkNet: Staff from Employee Connections, Inc. will teach you how to register with Illinois WorkNet. Learn how to navigate the site, find potential employers and submit online resumes. This hands-on class is open to anyone! Registration is required.  This program is part of the Steps to Success program. Call 847.872.4680, ext. 4 or register online.

Reading is So DeliciousAdults & Teens: Beginning Saturday, June 9, adults and teens ages 14 and older are encouraged to get a taste of reading.  Explore the world of food through literature by reading or listening to five titles in eight weeks to earn a delicious reward!  One of the five titles chosen should have a food-related word or theme.  Pick up a reading log at the Adult Services desk or complete it online.

Casual Crafters: Share ideas with fellow crafters and have fun while you work.  Bring all of your favorite projects–knitting, beading, paper crafting, needlepoint and quilting. Registration is not required.
Mondays at 6:30 p.m.: June 18, July 16 and August 20.
Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m.: June 1, July 17 and August 21.

Author Visit – Shelley Shepard Gray: Shelley Shepard Gray, New York Times bestselling author of over 40 novels will visit the library to discuss her work and her inspiration on Wednesday, June 20 at 7:00 p.m.

Shelley writes Amish romances for HarperCollins’ inspirational line, Avon inspire. She also writes historical, western inspirational romances.  Shelley has won the prestigious Holt Medallion for her books, Forgiven and Grace, and her novels have been chosen as Alternate Selections for the Doubleday/Literary Guild Book Club. Her first novel with Avon Inspire, Hidden, was an Inspirational Reader’s Choice finalist.

Delicious Food Scenes from the Movies: On Monday, June 25, at 7:00 p.m., Steven Frenzel from Marquee Movie Presentations gives this crowd-pleasing presentation that is perfect for foodies of all ages and film fanatics alike!  Whether you eat to live or live to eat, this mouth-watering look at one of America’s favorite pastimes is a dazzling collection of movie moments and fascinating behind-the-scenes stories that celebrate dining in all its forms. Blood Drive: Give the gift of life this summer and donate blood!  Every minute of every day, someone needs blood. That blood can only come from a volunteer donor, a person like you who makes the choice to donate. There is no substitute for your donation. When you make a blood donation, you join a very select group. Currently only 3 out of every 100 people in America donate blood.  The American Red Cross will be at the library on Tuesday, July 17 from 2:00-8:30 p.m.  Register at http://www.redcrossblood.org.

Families First GED Registration and Testing:  On Thursday, July 26, at 9:30 a.m., parents with children under the age of six can register and take a short pre-test to qualify for the Families First program sponsored by the library and the College of Lake County.  Classes are held on Wednesday and Thursday mornings from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Free childcare is provided and children have their own teacher with activities and crafts just for them. Parents study for their GED with an instructor from CLC, receive free books for their children and discuss parenting issues.  For more information, call Anyela at the College of Lake County at 847.543.2578.

Plant Clinic: University of Illinois Extension Master Gardeners will be available to answer your plant, pest and gardening questions on Wednesday, August 15.  Bring your questions and any plant, weed or insect samples, if you have them.  Samples should be sealed in plastic bags or a closed container.  No registration required, just walk in anytime between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
