Nann’s Retirement Celebration: After eleven years of serving our library and our community, Director Nann Blaine Hilyard is retiring. Nann has spent 39 years working in libraries and has lived in several states throughout her career. Everyone is welcome to join us to celebrate Nann’s retirement on Thursday, 5/1 from 4:30-7:30 p.m.
Tax Forms: Popular Federal, Illinois and Wisconsin forms and instruction booklets are available for free through April 2014. Reproducible forms are available to copy for 15¢ per page/side.
Children’s Book Week Bookmark Contest 2014: Celebrate Children’s Book Week (May 12 – 18, 2014) by designing a bookmark promoting the library’s summer reading club theme, “PAWS to Read.” Instructions and a template are available starting Monday, 4/14 at the Youth Services desk for K-8th grades. First place winners in each age category (K-2, 3-5 and 6-8) will receive $20 cash and the grand prize winning bookmark will be distributed in the 3 school districts and at the library. Bookmarks must be turned in by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, May 5, 2014.
Superhero Party: Calling all superheroes–We need YOU to protect our library! Test your powers and strength with activities and crafts on Saturday, 4/26 from 2:00-3:30 p.m. For all ages.
It’s a Fish Fry: Preschoolers up to age six and their parents are invited to a picnic in our fish bowl! Dress up as a fish, if you wish. Lake County and the Civil War—Home Front to Frontline: Drawing from letters, diaries and photographs from the Lake County Discovery Museum’s collections, Diana Dretske presents the personal stories of Lake County residents on the home front and the battlefield on Thursday, 5/8 from 2:00-3:00 p.m. Dretske is the Lake County historian and collections coordinator for the Lake County Discovery Museum and recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Illinois State Historical Society. READing Run: We’ll kick off Summer Reading programs with this family-oriented 5K run/walk fundraiser on Saturday, 6/14 at 8:00 a.m. We’ll have unique events and awards, goodie bags, food and tons of fun. This 5K, sponsored by the Zee Bee Run Squad, is ideal for both serious runners and casual walkers. Register for the READing Run before 5/31/14 for $5 off the registration fee. Full details, registration links and a course map are available at zbrun.org. Proceeds from the READing Run help the library provide quality programs for the community.
